Boston Orange website goes live with new CMS Print
Written by Matt Woodward
Monday, 27 September 2004

This was a long time coming and after struggling with finding a good web host, we were finally able to switch over to a new server with a brand new Content Management System (CMS).

So what has changed? Well, cosmetically, not very much. Most of the changes took place "under the hood", but as some may notice we do have a more interesting navigation bar on the left side of the page. Aside from the standard navigation links, we now have an "Events Calendar", a Newsfeed directly from the Daily Orange, and a Polling system which we can use to survey the web-enabled alumni club.

Perhaps most importantly, the new Content Management System allows all the board members access to post news, so the website should be updated more frequently now. Good stuff. In the meantime, stay tuned for more club info...

Orange Day: Syracuse celebrates 134th birthday Print

Monday, 22 March 2004

Orange Day is March 24th! That means you have to show your Syracuse Pride and celebrate Syracuse University's birthday by wearing orange. From SU News:

“For more than 200,000 alumni, National Orange Day is a chance to show pride in our alma mater and increase the visibility of SU,” says Donald Doerr, assistant vice president for alumni relations. “We are part of a great institution of higher learning and we should all be proud to show our orange spirit.”

In Central New York, organizers anticipate involvement by alumni, students, faculty, staff and the community. Doerr encourages supporters of the University throughout the region to wear orange and show their SU spirit. To reaffirm their commitment to community service, the Central New York Alumni Club will be working with children at Edward Smith Elementary School in Syracuse.

If you are in the Syracuse area, a multitude of events will be taking place. Join in the celebration if you can.

Syracuse Orangemen earn 5th seed in West bracket Print
Written by Matt Woodward
Monday, 15 March 2004

March Madness is upon us and the Orangemen have just been seeded the 5th position in the West bracket. Can we do it again? Tough to say, especially considering that we managed to beat University of Connecticut and then lose to Boston College. From the Daily Orange:

By any name, SU is happy with its spot in the tournament. Just one month ago, it appeared the Orangemen would be in danger of fighting for a spot in the Big Dance. Instead, despite Warrick's late concern, the Orangemen comfortably fit into the bracket. "From where we were two or three weeks ago and everything that's happened, we're thrilled to be in the tournament and to get a five seed," Boeheim said. "For a little bit longer, we're going to be the defending national champions. We're not ready to give it up, and I think somebody's going to have to take it away from us."

And we will be watching and cheering right along side the team. Go Syracuse!

While not as groundbreaking as Syracuse winning the NCAA Championship, the GBSUAC was recently given the "Alumni Club Program of the Year" award for their "Networking Night". Receiving the award for the club was the new club VP, Matt Woodward. The past president, Anissa Stern, was instrumental in the program's success. The current GBSUAC board plans on continuing on her success by repeating Networking Night again this coming 2004 year.
